Over the last 20 years, Red Hat Linux, Fedora Core, Fedora were/are built to some common assumptions, expectations, and desires. Over that same period, the open source ecosystem has seen exponential growth number and variety of technologies and applications. The scope and breadth of the ecosystem and immense variety of deployment targets raises fundamental questions on the role of distribution and its capabilities. A single deployment target is no longer enough, neither is a single web programming language or a single database. Evolution of the content of Fedora as well as the processes and tools used to build Fedora can propel its significance for the next 20 years.
