A look at the multiyear redesign and rewrite of anaconda. Difficulties encountered during the process. How the work was kept in the open, communicated to users and developers, and what we can do better in the future. The information presented here uses anaconda as a large project example, but a lot of the lessons learned can be applied to any open source project.
